Key Benefits
Trip Cancellation
Reimburses 100% of your forfeited, prepaid, non-refundable, non-refunded payments — up to $100,000 — if you're prevented from taking your covered trip due to a covered Unforeseen Event occurring before departure. If you reschedule instead of cancelling, the plan pays your travel supplier's change fees in lieu of cancellation benefits. Covered events include, among others:
- Injury, sickness, or death of you, your traveling companion, or an immediate family member that medically prevents travel
- Strike causing a complete 12+ hour cessation of common carrier travel services
- Bankruptcy or default of your travel supplier (if it occurs more than 14 days after your effective date)
- Inclement weather, natural disaster, terrorist incident, or common carrier mechanical breakdown causing 12+ hours of cessation of travel services
- Natural disaster rendering your home or destination accommodations uninhabitable
- Jury duty, subpoena, or witness appearance
- A politically motivated terrorist incident within 30 days/30 miles of your itinerary
- Traffic accident en route to departure (police report required), hijacking, quarantine, or felonious assault
- Military call-up, employer-required relocation, or job termination after 2+ years of continuous employment
Trip Interruption
If you must stop or can't resume your trip after departure due to a covered reason, the plan reimburses up to 150% of your insured trip cost for unused prepaid arrangements plus additional transportation expenses to rejoin your trip or return home (capped at the cost of your originally booked class of airfare, less any refunds).
Trip Delay
If you're delayed 12 or more hours en route to or from your trip due to a covered reason (carrier delay, traffic accident, weather, stolen passport, quarantine, hijacking, mandatory evacuation), the plan reimburses additional expenses up to $1,000 total at $150/day on a one-time basis.
Missed Connection
If you miss a connecting flight by 12 or more hours due to inclement weather or a common carrier delay, the plan pays up to $500 for additional transportation, reasonable accommodations and meals, and non-refundable unused trip costs. Secondary to any carrier compensation.
Airline Ticket Change Fee
Reimburses up to $100 per day (minimum 6-hour delay) when you must change your airline ticket dates due to a covered Trip Cancellation/Interruption event, an inclement-weather delay, or a documented medical emergency involving you, your traveling companion, or an immediate family member.
Frequent Travel Loyalty
Reimburses up to $250 for fees to re-deposit frequent flyer miles or hotel reward points used toward your trip, if the trip is cancelled or interrupted for a covered reason.
Emergency Medical Coverage
- $100,000 primary emergency medical — covers medically necessary treatment for an accidental injury or emergency sickness that first manifests during your covered trip and is first treated by a physician during the trip; $50 deductible; pays first, before any other insurance
- Covers physician and nursing services, hospital confinement and operating room charges, anesthesia, X-rays and lab tests, ambulance service, drugs and prosthetics, and emergency dental treatment for pain relief
- Emergency dental — up to $750 for emergency treatment to natural teeth due to accidental injury, or for emergency pain relief
- Pre-Existing Condition Waiver — waived when you purchase within 14 days of your initial trip deposit, insure 100% of your trip cost, and are medically able to travel on the effective date; 180-day lookback period
Emergency Medical Evacuation & Repatriation
- $1,000,000 Emergency Medical Evacuation — covers medically necessary transportation to the nearest adequate medical facility; must be ordered by your physician and reviewed/pre-approved by the assistance company; includes escort expenses when medically recommended; if hospitalized beyond a specified period, also covers return transportation for accompanying dependent children and one chosen companion to/from the hospital, plus spousal transportation home in qualifying cases
- $1,000,000 Repatriation of Remains — covers collection, preparation, casket, permits, and transportation of remains to your primary residence in the event of death during the covered trip; includes escort service for accompanying dependent children
Baggage & Belongings
- Baggage & Personal Effects — up to $1,000 (primary coverage; $0 deductible; $100 per article limit; 50% combined aggregate limit applies to jewelry, watches, precious metals, furs, and electronics) for loss, theft, or damage during your trip; also covers passport replacement fees and unauthorized credit card charges
- Baggage Delay — up to $250 ($100/day; primary coverage) for necessary replacement items when checked baggage is delayed or misdirected for 12+ hours by a common carrier

Step-by-step claims process:
- Notify Trawick/Starr within 20 days of the covered loss (or as soon as reasonably possible).
- Request claim forms — if forms aren't sent within 15 days of your notice, you may submit a detailed written statement of the occurrence, nature, and extent of the loss instead.
- Submit Proof of Loss within 90 days after the covered loss occurs (or as soon as reasonably possible; in Kansas, no later than one year from when proof is otherwise required, absent legal incapacity).
- For baggage loss/theft/damage: notify the common carrier or bailee in writing immediately, and notify police within 24 hours in the event of robbery or theft, providing a copy of the police report.
- Submit your claim with all required documentation.
Required documentation by claim type:
- Medical claims: itemized bills and reports, physician statements, explanation of benefits from other insurance

14-Day Free Look Period
The Safe Travels Armor plan includes a 14-Day Free Look period (subject to state variation).
Free Look: You may cancel this insurance by giving written notice within 14 days of the date your policy is delivered to you. If you have not yet departed on your trip and have not filed a claim, your full premium will be refunded.
After the Free Look period expires, the premium is non-refundable except in the following circumstances:
- Your travel supplier cancels or changes the dates of your covered trip and waives all penalties (pro-rata refund)
- Your death (pro-rata refund to your estate or beneficiary)
In Kansas specifically, you may also cancel this policy at any time by written notice; the unearned portion of your premium will be returned on a pro-rata basis, without prejudice to any claim that originated before the cancellation took effect.
In plain terms:
- You have 14 days from policy delivery to cancel for a full refund, provided you haven't departed or filed a claim
- After that window, refunds are limited to specific circumstances (full trip cancellation by the supplier, or death)
- Kansas residents have an additional, broader cancellation right for a pro-rata refund at any time
