Travel Insurance FAQs
Most plans are designed to protect two things:
your trip investment and your well-being while you travel.
Most plans include:
- Trip cancellation if something prevents you from going
- Trip interruption if your trip is cut short
- Emergency medical coverage while traveling
- Medical evacuation if you need advanced care
- Travel delays and baggage protection
Coverage can vary by plan.
The important part?
Not every plan covers things the same way.
That’s where we come in.

When should I buy travel insurance?
The sooner, the better.
Most travelers purchase coverage right after their first trip deposit.
Why that matters:
- Your trip investment is protected earlier
- You may qualify for additional benefits
- You remove the “I’ll do it later” risk

If your trip is already booked, don’t worry.
You can still get coverage; we’ll just help you understand what options are available based on timing.
Travel insurance typically costs a small percentage of your total trip cost, depending on:
- your age
- state of residence
- trip cost
- destination
- and coverage selected
For example:
- Trip cancellation plans are often around 4%–8% of your trip cost
- Travel medical plans can be just a few dollars per day
We help simplify your options, so you’re not overpaying or under-covered.
In many cases… no.
Most domestic health plans offer little to no coverage internationally, and Medicare does not cover you overseas.
That means if something happens:
- You may be responsible for medical bills
- hospital stays
- And more importantly, medical evacuation costs
That’s why travel medical coverage matters.
It fills that gap so you’re not navigating a medical situation in another country on your own.
Some credit cards do offer travel benefits, but they are often limited in scope.
Many do not include:
- comprehensive medical coverage
- medical evacuation
- or full trip cancellation protection
Coverage limits and requirements can also vary significantly.
We help you understand what you already have - and where additional protection may be needed.
Pre-existing conditions are generally not covered by default, but many plans offer a waiver if certain requirements are met.
In most cases, you may qualify if:
- you purchase your plan within a set timeframe (often 14–21 days from your initial trip deposit)
- and you meet the plan’s eligibility requirements

Travel insurance can cover weather-related disruptions—but timing matters.
Coverage may apply if:
- a storm causes a covered delay, cancellation, or interruption
- the event was unforeseen at the time you purchased your plan
If a storm is already named or expected before you buy coverage, it may not be covered.
This is one reason purchasing early is so important.
In most cases, no.
Airlines and cruise lines often have strict cancellation policies, and many costs are non-refundable.
Travel insurance helps protect those prepaid expenses if you need to cancel for a covered reason.
Most plans include a free-look period (typically 10–14 days, depending on the plan).
During this time, you can cancel your policy for a full refund as long as:
- you have not departed on your trip
- and you have not filed a claim
After this period, the policy is generally non-refundable.

You’ll receive your assistance contact details with your policy, so you’ll know exactly who to call if you need help.
Important to Know
All medical evacuations and major services must be coordinated through the insurance company’s assistance team in order to be eligible for coverage.
This is extremely important—if arrangements are made outside of the assistance team, those services may not be covered.
While the assistance team handles coordination during your trip, our role is to support and guide you before and after your travel.
If you have questions, need help understanding the process, or aren’t sure what to do next, we’re here to walk you through it so you’re not navigating things alone.
Claims are handled directly by your insurance provider.
To start a claim, you’ll typically:
- log into your insurance provider’s claims portal
- complete a claim form
- and submit any required documentation (receipts, medical records, travel confirmations, etc.)
Your policy documents will include the exact link and instructions for filing.
Important to Know
We are not the claims department, and we do not make claim decisions.
That means:
- we are not the ones approving or denying claims
- and we are not the ones issuing payments
However, we are here to help you:
- understand what documentation may be needed
- walk you through the process
- and answer questions along the way
