Who This Plan is For
The Diplomat America plan is purpose-built for non-U.S. residents coming to the United States — whether for a few weeks or up to a year. It directly addresses the reality that U.S. healthcare is among the most expensive in the world, and that most foreign health plans and government-sponsored insurance programs offer little or no coverage for medical care incurred in the United States.
This plan is an excellent fit for:
- International visitors traveling to the U.S. for business or leisure
- Parents or relatives visiting family in the United States
- Non-U.S. students studying at a U.S. college or university
- Employees of international companies traveling to the U.S. for work
- Church, mission, and volunteer workers visiting the United States
- Families participating in international adventure travel to the U.S.
- International travelers seeking short-term supplemental coverage for their U.S. visit
Why your existing coverage likely isn't enough:
Nationalized or government-sponsored health plans rarely provide adequate coverage for injuries or illnesses occurring in the United States. U.S. hospitals may not recognize foreign insurance cards and may require up-front payment or deny services entirely. The Diplomat America plan gives you recognized, U.S.-based coverage so you can seek care with confidence.
Eligibility notes:
- Available to non-U.S. residents only — must reside outside the United States
- Not available for residents of the USA, Australia, or Iran
- Coverage is for travel to the United States only — not designed for travel outside the U.S. (except incidental trips to Canada, Mexico, or the Caribbean Islands)
- Coverage is available for up to 2 adults, plus unmarried dependent children ages 14 days to 17 years; children may also be covered when traveling alone
- Not renewable — a new application must be submitted for additional coverage periods
- Pre-existing conditions are subject to a 24-month lookback period
