What is Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage?

Understand what CFAR means, when it applies, and how to qualify for this flexible upgrade.

What Is Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Coverage?

Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) is an optional upgrade available with many travel insurance plans. It allows you to cancel your trip for a reason not normally covered under standard cancellation terms and still receive a partial reimbursement of your insured trip cost.

This added flexibility gives travelers peace of mind—especially when plans may change unexpectedly for reasons like personal hesitation, scheduling conflicts, or changes in group participation.

🧾 What CFAR Typically Covers

Standard travel insurance only reimburses you if you cancel for a covered reason (such as illness, injury, death in the family, or weather). CFAR expands that coverage.

CFAR lets you cancel for reasons like:

  • Change of mind

  • Fear of travel due to world events

  • Disagreement among travel companions

  • Job obligations or changes not covered by standard policies

  • Trip no longer working out logistically

📌 How Much Does CFAR Reimburse?

Most CFAR benefits reimburse 50%–75% of your insured, non-refundable trip cost, depending on the plan.

📌 Example of How CFAR Works

Let’s say you decide to cancel your trip 48 hours before departure due to a personal reason not covered under standard cancellation benefits—such as a scheduling conflict, change of heart, or unease about travel conditions.

If you’ve purchased CFAR with your plan and meet the eligibility requirements, you may be reimbursed for up to 75% of your prepaid, non-refundable trip costs, depending on the terms of your policy.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for CFAR, you must:

  • Purchase your policy within 21 days of your initial trip deposit

  • Insure 100% of all pre-paid, non-refundable trip costs

  • Cancel your trip at least 48 hours prior to departure

  • Add CFAR at the time of purchase (not after)

If you wait too long to buy your policy, CFAR cannot be added later.

🧠 Who Should Consider CFAR?

CFAR is a smart upgrade for travelers who want greater control, flexibility, and peace of mind—especially when plans may change for reasons not covered by standard insurance.

CFAR may be ideal for:

  • Travelers booking cruises, tours, or luxury vacations with strict cancellation penalties

  • Mission teams or group leaders concerned about changes in participation

  • Families or seniors traveling with medical concerns not considered “pre-existing”

  • Anyone booking a trip months in advance where life circumstances may shift

  • People who simply want the option to cancel without having to justify their reason

If you’re unsure whether CFAR is right for you or your group, we’re happy to help you explore your options.
