How Do I File a Travel Insurance Claim?

If you need to file a travel insurance claim, it usually means something disrupted your trip. We’re sorry that happened—and we’re here to help you get pointed in the right direction.

Important: Insurance Consultants International is your agent, not the claims department. We can’t file your claim for you, but we can guide you and help escalate if something gets stuck.

Step 1: Start With Your Carrier
Each insurance provider has its own claims process. Go to our Claims Center page and select your insurance carrier. You’ll find:

  • Online claim forms

  • Contact details for phone and email support

  • Links to upload your documentation

Step 2: Tell Your Story
When filling out the claim form, explain:

  • Who was affected

  • What happened

  • When and where it occurred

  • How it impacted your trip

The more detail you provide, the faster your claim can be reviewed.

Step 3: Upload Documentation
Be prepared to provide documents that prove what happened and what expenses you incurred, such as:

  • Trip cancellation or delay notices

  • Doctor’s notes or itemized bills

  • Receipts for rebooking, prescriptions, or essentials

  • Proof of travel (airline or hotel confirmations)

What Happens After Filing

  • You’ll receive a claim number from the carrier

  • Status updates are sent by email or text

  • Most claims are processed in 10–15 business days once all documents are received

If you run into issues, contact our office. While we can’t file your claim, we can help troubleshoot and advocate on your behalf.

Claim Processing Takes Time
One of the most common misunderstandings is expecting a claim decision immediately after submitting documents. In reality, most claims require careful review. Once all requested documentation has been received, many claims administrators take approximately 10 business days or more to review the information before providing an update. If additional documentation is needed, the review timeline may begin again after those documents are submitted. We know waiting can be difficult, but a thorough review helps ensure every claim is evaluated fairly and according to the policy terms.
